Symptom: Chunk memory corruption crash: *Mar 1 21:49:07 UTC: %SYS-2-CHUNKBADROOTCHUNKPTR: Bad root chunk pointer in chunk header, chunk 0xXXXXXXXX data 0xXXXXXXXX root chunk ptr 0xXXXXXXXX -Process= "Check heaps", ipl= 0, pid= 4 chunk_diagnose, code = 4 chunk name is Chain Cache No ... Corrupted magic value in chunk's memory block %Software-forced reload Conditions: This has been seen on a 1700 running IOS version 12.4(25a) when issuing the channel-group command on the VWIC2-2MFT-T1/E1 card. This may affect more platforms/IOS versions; release note will be updated when more is known concerning the root cause.
