Description (partial)

Symptoms:

SNMP cannot handle interface counters request timeouts gracefully and miss heartbeat. As a result SNMP process is killed by the System Manager.

Condition:

Messages about link status are sent to the Port Manager/SNMP by LC software when the switchport link flaps continuously . The SNMP requests are not handled in time and SNMP times out which causes hearbeats to miss.
Reason for the link flap can be :
When the switch port receives OLS/NOS primitives continusly from the device/host.
