Description (partial)

The eth1/eth2 interfaces seem "up" when not working.

Due to the underlying BIOS on the system, the eth1 and eth2 interfaces are hard-set to participate in the "wake-on-lan" feature, which essentially allows emergency access to the box via those two interfaces by always keeping them electrically "up". This means, for example, if the remote end fails or speed is inadequate, the system (and therefore the VQE software) will not detect this condition, as it would on other interfaces (eth3-6).
