Cisco Bug: CSCsz06152 - CCE-FW : Interrupt protection required for cbb hash routines

Last Modified

Aug 04, 2010

Products (1)

  • Cisco IOS

Known Affected Releases

12.4(19.18)T2

Description (partial)

Symptom:

Race condition could occur if cef and process path functions access the same data structure for two different packets; mainly when processing a packet in the process path is interrupted by a packet in the cef path. As a result of this race condition the accessed data could be invalid, which in turn can result in unpredicted behavior in the context of zone-based firewall. In most cases this translates to a router crash due to null/corrupted memory accesses.

Conditions:

This depends on the internal implementation of features and could happen under various circumstances/configurations, i.e. there is no specific scenario that creates this race condition. However, zone-based firewall is the only feature that exercises this part of the code. So it needs to be configured.
